by Earma Brown
Develop the Habits of Profitable Website Owners and Prosper!
Anyone that invests time or money in their website wants a good
return on investment (ROI). All want to gain more leads, convert
more visitors into paying customers or just plain get their important
message out to more people. There are winning habits profitable
website owners make that increase their effectiveness, profits and
literally attract visitors to their sites. Incorporate five more
of those ten winning habits and make your site a more effective
marketing tool, increase profits or keep visitors coming back for
more of your helpful message:
Winning Habit #6 They Optimize Graphics and Reduce
Page Load Time
It’s important to include graphics and photos to illustrate
your message effectively. Yet keep in mind, that too slow
page load is one of the top reasons people avoid certain sites.
Researchers say the maximum time visitors will wait for a
page to load is around 10 seconds. For non-techies like the
author optimize your graphics, with a gif/jpeg cruncher: http://www.spinwave.com/crunchers.html
Winning Habit #7 They Build Trust and Creditability
Like it or not, many are still cautious of buying on the web. A
Boston Consulting Group Consumer Survey found that 70% of respondents
worry about making purchases online. After you have used all the
techniques for capturing your visitors interest, be sure to include
enough supporting information on your website.
If you sell graphic design services, the supporting information
would be a portfolio or samples of your work. Case studies solving
your client problems, how you solved them and how they benefited
as a result would be great supporting information for consulting
services. A testimonial page would help build creditability as well.
You’ve done what it takes to attract visitors, capture their
interest when they arrived, now reward them with a professional
trust-worthy website.
Winning Habit #8 They Test Function and Usability
of Their Site
About 4-5% of all links on the internet are broken. Broken
links are a frequent cause of visitors leaving early. It creates
a bad impression and may cause search engines and directories
to not list your site. Test and double test everything and
then test again. Poorly written or misspelled text, broken
links and inaccuracy on business sites speak unprofessional.

Winning Habit #9 They Call to Action
Many website’s lose countless opportunities to make a sale
or capture a lead because they fail to ask something of their visitors.
Call your visitors to a specific action. At the end of every page
use the power of the direct command whether it’s simply directing
them to contact you for further information or a directive to browse
further into your site.
For example, instead of “If you would like this beautiful
travel brochure, we will be happy to send it” use “Sit
down right now and fill out this form to start planning your vacation.”
Or instead of “Call us to purchase your widget” use
“Dial this number 877-846-9908 to purchase your widget today.”
Winning Habit #10 They Make it Easy
Customers not only want to know what you offer, what’s
in it for them, and who you are, they want to be able to contact
you. Especially, if you are selling a product or service they
may have questions about the product you are selling. They
want to know they can contact you if a problem arises with
their order.
Web Wit Tip: Capture more sales by including your
phone number and contact information on every page.
If you are serious about making your website a more effective
marketing tool or increasing its profits, begin by creating
the suggested habits of website owners that profit. Even one
or all of the successful habits will help make your website
one that your visitors will proudly refer, buy from and come
back to over and over again.
