Top Ten Things
to Do to Make Your Signature File Sing & Sell, Part I
Resource boxes sell!
Are you marketing your book or product/service by writing articles
in your expertise? If so, always design your signature file to sell
on every article. You never know who might read your article once
submitted to top eZines and websites in your field. Experts say,
"The few lines at the end of your article called a signature
box have proven to be even more important
than the message itself."
This signature box should contain your subtle sales message including
multiple ways to contact you. Persuade your reader to subscribe
to your ezine. Entice them to visit your site for your free e-book,
mini-course or special offer. To make your resource box sing and
sell use the following ten tips:
1. Make it focused, short and clear. The biggest
mistake marketers make when developing their signature file is they
make it too long and confusing. Focus on one offer per signature
file. Aim to make your message clear.
2. Include your full name with your title in the top line.
Put your best foot forward with your strongest title and
track record. For example, Earma Brown, 15-year author, entrepreneur
and book coach. If including the copyright sign here don't date
it so your article can maintain a shelf-life as long as possible.
Some readers will assume it's dated information if the date is over
a couple of years.
3. Compose your short mission statement which includes
a major
benefit for the second line. For example, "Helping
writers realize their book dreams" or "Making complex
communications simple." Ask friends to vote on your top five.
4. Incorporate one book title or product/service
in the third
line. If you have written several books or have extensive
products/services you must choose one to focus on per signature
file. You will defeat your purpose to subtly sell if you don't keep
in mind the first tip's advice, "Don't make it too long or
confusing."
5. Include your address, city and zip in the fourth
line.
Follow the 2003 new law and help combat spam. Also, consider everyone
may not be reading your article from the computer. Make it easy
to connect with you. Even if it's not the most popular, snail mail
is still considered a valid choice.
Don't write your short, focused, clear but subtle sales message
into your signature file and you may miss out on hundreds of leads
to subscribers and customers. Craft yours now and watch your resource
box sing in the profit arena.
